Older Adults Program - David J. Yim. MSW. Program Director

Great job OAP for demonstrating the true essence of collaborative work! The Older Adults Program was approached by the University of California at Irvine, libraries for permission to include selected materials from the REACH 2010 HAPAS Project resource kit. This resource kit produced in 2001 provided an analysis of a one-year needs assessment finding which addressed the disparities in health related to immunizations, diabetes type II, and cardiovascular diseases among eight Asian and Pacific Islander older adult communities. Portions of the resource kit will be made available through a HTML-based web portal which will be available to college and university faculty and K-12 teachers using Southeast Asian American content in their courses. In addition, the REACH 2010 HAPAS Project has made another significant stride by collecting over 1,600 surveys on older adult immunizations in the past year thanks to the hard work and dedication of the collaborative partners: Little Tokyo Service Center/Asian & Pacific Islander Older Adults Task Force; Cambodian Association of America; St. Mary Medical Center/Families in Good Health' Federation of Filipino-American Association; Guam Communications Network; Samoan National Nurses Association; Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance; and the University of California at Los Angeles School of Public Policy and Social Research Department of Social Welfare. David Yim and Dr. Ailee Moon in the next several weeks will work together to analyze the data for publications on behalf of the collaborative. Way to Go!

Census Data & Geographic Information Services - Eric Wat, MA, Research Analyst

Program Evaluation - On April 12, 2004, CD&GIS facilitated the first in a series of workshops on program evaluation. This interactive workshop was lead by SSG's new Research Analyst, Eric Wat and was attended by 12 individuals from 5 SSG programs as well as SSG's development team. At the workshop, participants learned the various types of program evaluation as well as how to develop an evaluation plan. Participants also brainstormed on creative ideas on how to demonstrate long-term impact of their programs on the communities they serve. As part of the evaluation of the workshop, they identified various evaluation topics to be explored next. Keep your eye out for the next evaluation training. If you have any questions regarding evaluation for your program, please contact CD&GIS ewat@ssgmain.org.
